Home / Flooring Guides / PVC Gym Flooring – Homogeneous Sheet
Gym floors are hit harder than almost any other commercial floor: dropped dumbbells, scuffed trainers, sliding equipment and sweat. A floor that looks worn after a year is a poor investment. Homogeneous PVC sheet absorbs the abuse — the colour runs through the full thickness so scuffs stay invisible, the seamless surface resists moisture and cleaning chemicals, and the slip finish keeps athletes on their feet.
Three pressures separate a gym floor from any other commercial floor. The specification should answer all three.
Dropped dumbbells, scuffed trainers and dragged equipment. Through-color homogeneous sheet keeps scratches and scuffs the same shade as the surface, and 3.0 mm thickness gives the longest life where impacts are heaviest. For free-weight zones, an impact underlay beneath the sheet absorbs the worst of it.
A gym is not one surface. Entry areas, exercise floors, wet zones and changing rooms each need a different grip. Our sheet is available in slip classes R9–R11 (DIN 51130), so you can match the finish to the activity instead of accepting one slippery surface everywhere.
Non-porous PVC with hot-welded seams means sweat and cleaning chemicals cannot soak in. No grout lines, no absorbent backing to trap odour — a damp mop with neutral cleaner keeps a gym floor fresh after every session.
Most gym projects use one of these three builds. Tell us your zones and we will confirm which fits.
| Build | Best for | Impact resistance | Slip & fire |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3.0 mm sheet + impact underlay | Free-weight and functional training zones | Thickest build; underlay absorbs dropped-weights shock | R9–R11, fire B1 |
| 3.0 mm sheet | Cardio areas, group class studios, main floors | Thick wear layer for scuffs and slides | R9–R11, fire B1 |
| 2.0 mm sheet | Changing rooms, offices, reception, corridors | Standard wear for light-impact zones | R9–R10, fire B1 |
A gym floor is a system: the sheet, the step edges and the wall junctions all work together.

Free-weight areas are where gym floors fail first. An impact underlay beneath 3.0 mm sheet absorbs the shock of dropped plates; without it, even thick vinyl eventually dents. Tell us the equipment layout and we will spec the build zone by zone.
A single slippery finish across the whole gym is a common mistake. Entry areas and wet zones should step up to R11, while yoga and group-class floors keep a comfortable mid-range grip. We supply test reports for the class you choose.
Sheet, stair nosing, skirting and cove former from one factory mean matching shades, one delivery and one warranty conversation. Split sourcing is how gym floors end up with three different greys.
