PVC Homogeneous Sheet vs LVT: Which for Healthcare Floors?
Hospitals need floors that survive carts, spills and constant cleaning — without trapping germs. Here is how the two common PVC options compare.
1. What They Are
Homogeneous sheet is a single, through-color layer — the pattern runs all the way through. LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) is a printed, multi-layer tile or plank with a wear layer on top. Both use PVC, but their structure differs sharply.
2. Wear & Lifespan
Because homogeneous sheet is the same color and material throughout, scratches never expose a different layer — it keeps looking even after years of traffic. LVT's printed layer can show wear at edges once the top coat thins. For 24/7 hospital corridors, homogeneous sheet wins on durability.
3. Hygiene
Sheet flooring installs with heat-welded seams, leaving almost no gaps for bacteria. LVT has many tile joints unless professionally full-bonded and sealed. In operating wards and labs, seamless homogeneous sheet is the safer choice.
4. Cost & Installation
LVT is often cheaper per square meter and easier to replace tile-by-tile. Homogeneous sheet costs more upfront and needs skilled welding, but its longer life and lower maintenance often beat LVT on total cost in heavy-use healthcare settings.
5. Our Recommendation
For hospitals, clinics and labs with high traffic and strict hygiene — choose PVC homogeneous sheet. For low-traffic offices or retail where pattern variety matters, LVT is fine. Either way, pair it with matching accessories for a complete system.
