What "Homogeneous" Actually Means
In vinyl flooring, homogeneous describes a floor whose entire thickness is one material. There is no printed décor film, no separate clear wear layer, and no foam or fiber backing — just a single calendered or extruded compound where the color is the body. The relevant product standard is EN 649 / EN ISO 10582 (vinyl sheet without backing). Cut the sheet anywhere and the cross-section looks identical top to bottom.
That through-color construction changes how the floor fails. On a heterogeneous (composite) floor, a deep scratch cuts through the thin wear film and reveals the printed layer beneath, leaving a visible mark. On a homogeneous floor, the same scratch stays the same color, so it reads as a surface scuff rather than a structural breach. For a specifier, the practical consequence is simple: the floor keeps its appearance under heavy traffic without the decorative layer being the limiting factor.
How Homogeneous Vinyl Sheet Is Made
The compound is blended once — PVC resin, plasticizer, fillers, stabilizers, pigment, and abrasion-resistant modifiers are dispersed together — then formed into a continuous sheet. Because there is no decorative film to register or laminate, there is no inter-layer bond that can delaminate.
Most homogeneous sheet leaves the factory with a PUR (polyurethane) finish cured by UV. This is a permanent factory treatment, not a wax you strip and reapply. It densifies the surface so dry-buffing and damp mopping restore gloss without coating buildup. The distinction matters: a field-applied acrylic or emulsion coating is a maintenance layer you must renew; a factory PUR finish is part of the product and stays until the floor is removed.

- Acoustics. Impact sound improvement expressed as ΔLw in dB under EN ISO 717-2, dependent on whether an acoustic backing or underlay is specified.
- Low emissions. FloorScore certified to the CDPH Standard Method (CA 01350), low-VOC and commonly required for North American healthcare and education projects.
- Dimensional and load behavior. Assessed under EN ISO 24343-1 (residual indentation), EN 425 (castor chair), and EN ISO 23999 (dimensional stability) — the routine contract-flooring test set.

Where Homogeneous Sheet Performs Best

- Laboratories and transit. Durability under point loads and frequent cleaning drives the choice in labs, stations, and similar public infrastructure.

Installation: Full-Spread Adhesive + Hot-Air Welded Seams
Homogeneous sheet is a fixed, adhered floor — never a floating floor.
- Substrate readiness. Concrete must test at ≤75% RH by in-situ probe at 40% slab depth per ASTM F2170. Do not express this as "% moisture content." Where the slab is out of tolerance or uneven, apply a cementitious self-leveling compound over a suitable primer.
- Adhesive. Use a full-spread acrylic or polyurethane adhesive. For the static-control grade, use conductive adhesive; for ESD projects a conductive epoxy may be specified. Do not use chloroprene (neoprene) adhesive — it is excluded from our recommended system.
- Notch trowel. Apply with an A1, A2, or A3 notch (never a "B1" notch, which collides with the B1 fire class and causes confusion).
- Acclimatize and roll. Let the sheet relax, position it, and roll with a weighted roller to achieve full transfer.
- Weld. After the adhesive cures (typically 24 h), close seams with hot-air welding using color-matched welding rod, then flash-trim for a flush joint.
- Hygienic up-turn (optional). At walls, form a welded cove with a cove former and JINXUAN wall protection for a continuous, cleanable junction.

- Repair: cut out a damaged section and weld in a new piece. Because the color is through-body, there is no pattern-repeat to match, so repairs stay discreet.
